Toastmastering is a very British tradition and it is making its way throughout the world. There is no better toastmaster than the British one. He is easily recognisable in his red outfit and his crisply ironed white shirt. He is also recognisable by his deeply shined red shoes.
His origins are from the middle ages but more recently he is seen as the butler that makes announcements prior to dinner. He is usually acting as the introductory person to the host and hostess of the party.
Toastmastering is a very difficult job, afterall the thought of speaking and presenting to a room full of people will fill many of us with dread. The palms become sweaty and a general uncomfortableness comes over most of us but the toastmasters have to do it on a reguar basis.
It is the fear of opening your mouth and nothing coming out that I feel is what most dread, but many of us will never be placed in this situation. If you ever get the opportunity to do it my advice is go for it ! Do it ! You will love it and never look back !
